Perfect Pitch Update: Sophie Zaaijer (#55)

Adventurers

A hallmark of both entrepreneurship and the performing arts is the ability to pivot from one path to another, leveraging everything learned thus far and charting a new course.

Sophie Zaaijer PhD, the violist entrepreneur profiled in our featured in our 55th Perfect Pitch profile, recently made an exciting pivot. As she explains:

"“Since my Perfect Pitch profile, I continue my split-persona, which is held together by a passion for celebrating diversity. I keep on playing viola and support the Riverside Philharmonic board to ensure continuation of the existence of diversity in musical expression in my local community. Additionally, as an entrepreneurial scientist, I extended/pivoted my work to focus on implementing diversity in drug development pipelines by founding the Equity in Drug Development Initiative. Most drugs are currently developed for people of European descent. However, given new legislation, clinical trials need to become increasingly diverse, now including Black, Asian, and Hispanic people to be able to anticipate differential drug responses.”
