When I Started Performing: When I was 12 years old I played my first drums concert in a band, performing songs like Daytripper by the Beatles! Was a great time.
Performing Arts Background: I have been playing the drums since I was 11 years old. I performed in Trinity Music Exams from Jazz level 5 to Rock and Pop Level 8. I performed with numerous bands throughout the years from ages 10 to 18 and then was in a band called Sex Asians in colleges, playing 7 shows in Berkeley at various Battle of the Bands and different venues!
How did your performing arts background supercharge your entrepreneurship?
Being a drummer taught me raw creativity. It was pure pattern making from scratch. You can make any beat from any combination of the kit with varying dynamics, different speeds and any pattern that comes to mind. It also taught me discipline. I had to be disciplined with dynamics, speeds and patterns when performing live and in each and every practice because drumming is the backbone of the song band. You can do fills and experiment, as long as you stay on beat, and maintain it for the whole team.
It taught me how to perform under pressure of bright lights, sometimes hundreds of onlookers and three other people depending on me to keep it together for them. Entrepreneurship is all about leading a team and being the backbone of the organization you are building; providing the team with stability under high pressure, bright lights and more than hundreds of people watching.
